Clark Air Base Scrapbook

Clark 2004

by Thomas C. Utts

These pictures were sent by Kenneth V. Rice, a retired Master Sergeant who enlisted  United  States
Air  Force in 1980. After cop school the Oregon  native's  first assignment  was to the 3rd  Law Enforcement Squadron at Clark for three years. He returned to Clark in 1985 for another
three years. In 1991 he was assigned to Pirinclik Air Base, Turkey. After a near-death
traffic accident  he went to the March AFB Hospital in Riverside, CA. His last
assignment was at McClellan AFB CA. He went on terminal leave in the
summer of the year 2000, and retired in October. Ken and his wife Prelia
divided their time between homes in Manila and California.

A picture of Ken Rice
from the golden olden
days at Clark when
he was a cop. Looks
like it was taken in
the cop's dayroom pub.

For this trip the pictures will be from the former checkpoint, now the
entrance to Clark Field, going into Balibgo. The pictures at the
bottom are of areas and places on the base property.

This pictures is a continuation of the one above, note the same tower in the
background on the right in the first photo and the left of the second one.

Approaching 'da big hat going toward MacArthur Highway (is it still called that?).
Getting closer one can see the vast improvements the local have made to the surroundings.

The sign say: "Barangas Malabanirs, Angeles City."
Most of us knew this as Fields Ave.

Fields Avenue, Ken said "Most of the popular bars no longer exist, however
the DMZ is still around. The 3rd Eye was destroyed in the volcano." The drive
continues in the next

After making a right hand turn from Fields Avenue onto what was called MacArthur Highway
heading toward Angeles City proper. The next three pictures were part of the same trip

Ken said this was, "This is going on base, the main road that use to pass by
DRMO (???) on the way to and from Mabalacat Gate

The old elephant care area. It's been turned into some sort of showplace.

Longer view of same area.  Ken isn't sure what goes on there.

This is part of a new housing area with a shopping complex kitty corner to
what use to be the American Express Bank, BX, and Commissary.

.

Ken isn't sure what this was.

A former housing area looted and gone to rot.

Two pictures sent by Mario Guatno, a Filipino who used to
live in Angeles City, and is now in Durham NC. The former
K-9 area is now something called the Clearwater Resort.

This facility is very
attractive, but where
are all the people?
